I bought a SHIMANO ST-EF500-7R4A mountain bike shift/brake shifter to replace an old Shimano 2-stroke 7-speed derailleur that wasn't working. Removing the old one was easy. Remove the right handle. Use a 5mm allen wrench to loosen the clamp. Loosen the cable anchor bolt that secures to the rear derailleur and pull the cable out, leaving all the sheathing attached to the solder joints. Now put the new derailleur/brake assembly on, thread the wire through the housings, attach the wire to the rear derailleur, tighten the clamp and install the right hand grip. It is so easy. You may need to adjust the rear derailleur. Search "How to Adjust the Rear Derailleur" for more information. This is 5 stars because the product does what it is supposed to for a reasonable price.
