Back up your data on an external drive (not the one you're switching - this one will do: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Storage-STDR1000103/dp/B00H4XH5GI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1446759324&sr=8-3&keywords=seagate+1+tb+external + hard+ drive2 clone your drive I bought a docking station from Best Buy: [.] 2a For a video on how to clone your drive, this helped me: [.] 3. Change your drives (for Dell Inspiron 1440 users, here is a youtube video that helped me:[.] 4.Before you erase the old drive, make sure your new drive is working I must say my drive is working very well, my computer is faster than before and I actually thinking about getting a 1TB drive erk (or maybe not) :) UPDATE (Oct 2016): The drive is still not working when I gave it to my friend who needed a laptop (previously Inspiron!). I just factory reset it and now it works even better! I've had it for 8 years so I'm hoping he gets it for another 8 (although I'm pretty sure I'm wishful thinking). Maybe I should just wish he kept it until he could buy a better one!
