Very happy with the purchase. I shoot woodcarving and art videos and this has been a great upgrade for almost any tripod. I have not used any other goosenecks so there is nothing to compare. ok minus Not many surfaces are suitable for this clamping. Most surfaces are molded around the edges. This clamp cannot half clamp something. The disc tilts and eventually bends. The weight of the product alone calls for a strong clamp. There is no gap between the clamping disc and the back of the clamp. It cannot handle thin moldings like most of these clips. The surface should be a raw shelf or a piece of wood. You can pinch some tricky surfaces with small pieces of wood, but don't count on it. This thing works best on a regular tripod. Another consideration is the ball joint next to the camera/phone mount. Ball joint clamps are usually corrosive, like these. Don't break the handle to make the connection strong, just find out. Also, the base of the gooseneck for the clamp is just a screw. I mean if you are trying to mount this device to a vertical surface? The weight of the neck unscrews at the base and swings slackly at the bottom. I know this all sounds bad, but I'm still happy with it. It seems to be the best goose available.
