There are LOTS of errors on these discs!

I have a great Blu-ray burner that never had disc errors until I used these. A whole pack of 3 drives was wasted - the first drive in the replacement pack was fine - now the second drive in the replacement pack just failed. If you take the risk of using these cheap drives, that's fine - just try to use them all within the return period so you can "try again" to get Verbatim's pennies, not yours!

Fast and accurate writing

I finally got the chance to back up some files on one of these drives. I put about 23.6 GB on it. My burner said it had 14MB of free space left. I recorded it at slow speed, 4X, and then checked the progress. The writing process took 24 minutes and the proofreading took 21 minutes. It's surprisingly fast compared to the amount of data and time it takes for the DVDs I'm so used to. I don't need to run it any faster, and slower is probably much more accurate for recording. So overall I am very…

Great for mass storage

I've recently found that I need to free up some disk space to work on projects that require a lot of disk space. This need has given me the ability to organize and archive many valuable videos, archival materials, etc. This dual-layer Blu-ray disc did it. I love Verbatim discs for their excellent DVD+RDL quality. This prompted me to try single layer Blu-ray discs, which gave me a pleasant experience. After that I decided to try dual layer discs and again everything is fine. If you look at it…

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • I'll write back later

I have been using Verbatim hard drives for 20 years. From CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R/DL, DVD+R/DL and BD-R/DL. I stayed with them for so long because they have always been the most reliable writing medium and also had a durability unmatched by cheaper brands. So far I've used Verbatim dual-layer BD-R discs, which came in 3-packs in jewel cases. I've burned about 30 or so with no problems with the disc. This 10 pack spindle I just received on Monday is completely useless. Only ONE of the entire pack was

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Communication with seller

UPDATE: Drives work fine, my problem was due to using cdrkit instead of cdrtools in Linux. Anyone using Linux please use cdrtools as cdrkit is not supported and will simply play coaster after coaster when using a 2-ply BD! ORIGINAL: The first one I recorded didn't work when changing layers, I don't know if it was the burner or the disc. I'm afraid of burning the second ones as they are quite expensive to throw away in trials.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Only available in white color

Does what it says on the tin

Although expensive these BDrs didn't give me coasters when I burned them so I'm happy with them. I'd rather pay a little more for peace of mind than buy something that doesn't work.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Maybe it's my burner, but I haven't been able to burn it yet

I've tried 3 different programs to transfer 40 gigabytes of music files for backup with no success. My burning program is designed for dual-layer recording, but no matter which program I use, I get error messages. If I find out I'll update my review, but I just bought a flash drive and made a backup.

Pros
  • Nice design
Cons
  • Nothing here

What do we really know about optical media?

Five stars. Why? Launched with no errors. It read files which I tested after writing. I'm happy. But that's not all. What are good and bad optical media, how should we judge the quality? If you're recording 50 gigabytes of data and it's not Blu-Ray videos, chances are they're being used as archive storage. It is used in the way you want to access data many years from now. You can easily buy a USB flash drive or external hard drive, but they have a limited number of read/write cycles; This means
