Fast but Buggy: Computers and Accessories

2020-04- 25TL ; DR I returned this drive and received a T5 instead. T5 works perfectly. I really wanted this one (2TB model) but unreliable. I might try again after Samsung fixes the bugs, but I'll get it back soon for now. I contacted Samsung support and it got me nowhere so I'm done. What's good: It's really fast when it works. Things like copying huge folders of files to and from it seem normal. Unacceptable: Loading multiple streams of files from the Internet causes the drive to simply freeze for a few seconds. Eventually he wakes up, but it keeps happening. I also have T3 and T5 and they don't have this problem. In case anyone from Samsung is listening: I installed the installer on a Mac and set up a password and 4 fingerprints. I also updated to the latest firmware. I left the file system as it came out of the box (exfat). The machine I actually use it on is a Chromebook, specifically a Google Pixelbook (Original, not Go). Update 04/19/2020: I exchanged it for the same model and the replacement has the same problem. Now I have to decide whether to keep it in hopes that Samsung fixes the bug, or ditch the T7 and get the T5 instead. Samsung, I'm not your beta tester, but I'll be happy to provide you with a detailed problem report if you give me an easy way to do it. Update 04/23/2020: This is worse than I thought. Basically, the drive turns itself off from time to time even when just playing a video file stored on it. This makes it only suitable for file backups. I can't believe this thing came out how did they even test it?

Pros
  • STATUS LED: The T7 Touch has a square LED that lights up so you can see at a glance what your SSD is doing
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
