This is a nice sturdy little pestle that feels very comfortable in the hand and works effectively when mixing all kinds of drinks. One caveat is that a dark stain or surface doesn't hold up very well, especially with any kind of vigorous rubbing. Even with careful maintenance, acids and friction will wear away the finish over time, revealing dull and light colored wood. However, that doesn't detract from its usefulness (and didn't make us sick!). However, as with other woodworking tools, avoid prolonged soaking, even in the dishwasher, and this will serve you well.
