Rotating metal on metal creates a black streak on Parmesan, which turns into grated cheese in the form of hundreds of black, pepper-like flakes. Most of the time this can be avoided by leaving the cheese in the middle of the drum, but you still have to pick out some grains. Thorough washing and even boiling the device did not solve the problem. We've had a few years of infrequent use, but I've just found out that it has a lifetime guarantee, so I'll see if there's the same issue with another unit. Others here don't seem to be having the same issue, so maybe it's just this blockage.
