Terrible smell and frayed edges

I wanted to love this leash. The width was just enough to keep my dog in place. She has 35 pounds of raccoon dog muscles. But the edges of the leather were rough and frayed, and it smelled of pure formaldehyde. So much so that my dog sneezed and so did I! I left it to see if it dissolves. Such a shame I put it in the closet for a week. The closet stank of some chemical so I threw it out. Maybe others have better luck.
