Upon arrival, they do have a smell mainly because of the plastic to protect the lids. But after washing and letting it air dry it faded away. Glass is thick and they can all be stored inside one another with the lids. Great space saver! Lids do have a good closing snap with a good sealing but are not leakproof. I ordered this mainly to keeping some food fresh in the refrigerator and to use the small ones for my husband's lunch. I used the second smallest for my husband's soup and it did leak a little bit but not that much as you can see in the pictures only a little liquid pass the sealing barrier. Overall I think they work great just need to be careful if taking it on the go with liquids.
