After removing the battery and safety switches, I discovered that the starter solenoid was a faulty component that was preventing the Deere D130 from starting. I turn the key and the headlights work but they won't come on. If this sounds familiar after a quick google search, this is a common faulty Deere lawnmower component. I was happy to find this part and get it quickly. Easy quick installation (5 minutes max) and my lawnmower was up and running in no time. Now my only concern is that it has the same part number/manufacturer as the original solenoid so it's not known how long it will last. However, I'm very glad I didn't have to pay my local Deere attachment dealer his outrageous labor and parts surcharge for what turned out to be an easy fix.
