I don't like buying 4-5 gallon water bottles, carrying them around the house and loading up a new one every 2 days. I like not using tons of plastic (although I recycled it). And I like not spending money on water every week! The reusable water pitcher is great for my family of 6. We use a lot of water, so I refill it often. I keep a large stainless steel bowl nearby and fill it (the pitcher) about 2 times a day. (4 kids, 4 athletes and 2 parents = lots of refillable water bottles!) A big downside is the lack of water pressure. On 4-5 liter bottles from the store there was a sealed cap, the bottle quickly flew out of the spout. There is no sealing with this design, so no rushing. What if you fill 10-12 bottles of water a day takes a little longer. But the good outweighs the bad and I am very satisfied.
