Swallowing food is easier when their necks aren't bent down to reach bowls on the floor. Some cats crouch down to eat, with their bellies on the floor, and don't have the problems from craning their necks. But my current cats don't do that. I don't know why, but they prefer to stand up and tip their heads down. and often choke because of it. With this elevated bowl stand, just these few extra inches allow them to be in a more comfortable position when swallowing. (And no more barf-backs into the bowl!) Also, I leave the metal bowls that came with it in place all the time, and nest their actual food bowls into the metal ones. Easier to clean up.
