This is amazing! Benefits: - Help the environment by reducing your use of single-use plastic (if you really want to know what single-use cups, forks and straws are doing to our planet and to us, check out the Bag It documentary) - Seems indestructible! I believe my kids will still be using them when they grow up - they are completely inert and non-toxic - they beat any other straw because they stay warm or cool with your drink! (yum, iced tea) - They're dishwasher safe. Disadvantages: - no, they do not decompose (or it takes a very long time). But obviously stainless steel is inert and therefore a much better form of environmental waste than plastic. Apparently, small animals can use these things as shelters, and unlike plastic waste, they don't get into groundwater and cause male frogs to develop female reproductive organs (yes, most plastics are endocrine disruptors that have serious effects on humans and other animals). .To give you an idea, they are slightly larger than a 32 ounce globe jar. Update 4/6/16: We still use and love them. They are still like new. My partner found they fit nicely through the hole in the lid of his Yeti coffee mug. He FINALLY agrees to take something reusable to buy soda at the gas station! His drinks stay much colder than in styrofoam cups and plastic straws, and the amount of toxic single-use materials we produce is much less! We still highly recommend them.
