Review on ๐Ÿงช Accurate Ammonia Testing Made Easy: Seachem MultiTest Ammonia Test Kit by Nancy Knudsen

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Difficult to read accurately and difficult to manage. Free ammonia can be calculated from total ammonia in another way.

Good features: Contains reference solution and this reference solution contains reference values not only for NH3 but also for NO3 and PO4, so I can use it for other chemical tests as well. Value for reference solution (1.0 ppm NH3) -- or the best that can be determined with this difficult-to-read test (see below).- It tests NH3 and NH3+NH4 separately. This is the only test I've found in the US market that does this. That being said, I think I overestimated the need for this feature. It is true that NH3 and not NH4 is harmful, but the NH3 value can be calculated from the NH3+NH4 value. Just search the internet for "Free Ammonia Calculatorโ€. To do this, you need to know the salinity, pH and temperature of the water. Most aquarists who test NH3 will also likely check their pH and find out the temperature of their water. This leaves a salinity. Marine aquarists know this value, freshwater aquarists most likely do not. There are several ways to determine salinity, each of which requires an instrument (refractometer, hydrometer, or conductivity meter). But all these tools only cost $20. So for $20-$40 you can just use the total ammonia test which is easy to use. I also do not recommend the Salifert ammonia test. Check out my review on this product page to see why (tldr: very inaccurate). Bad: - The test takes 15-30 minutes. - It is very difficult to remove chemically impregnated circles from the tweezers used to move them. You stick and it's clumsy. Ugly: The color on the color chart is in shades of yellow to blue. The color of the circles you compare the chart to are in shades of yellow to gray. Comparing blue to gray is difficult. The coloring was also uneven in circles, but rather patchy, which made comparison even more difficult. As a result, the accuracy of this test suffers significantly.
