I recently bought snow white breeches off eBay that were badly warped. The seat was damaged and could not be used. I had another pair of breeches that I didn't like but had a perfectly acceptable fit, so I decided to try a new fit and paint them to try and keep the eBay breeches from going in the trash. they must match the color of the replacement seat. (Note: I painted the breeches first and then changed the seat material so the seat material you see in the finished photo is not painted with dye). anyway, if I mixed them up, there were no casualties. The composition of the fabric on the breeches (see photo of the pre-dyed, white label on the breeches) was a cotton/polyester/spandex blend, so I bought matching Idye color packs from Idye for cotton and Idye for polyester fabrics and an Idye color fixative pack and did the stove top method. The color when cooked was very dark, but after rinsing and drying they lightened (which I was glad about). Also, due to the spandex content, I chose to keep the paint pot "almost boiling" but not bring it to a boil like the instructions suggest. I cooked about 1/2 hour (instructions recommend 1/2 to 1 hour). As you can see from the photos, the results were amazing! Now I have nice pair of breeches and one less piece of clothing in the landfill! Hooray! The Idye packages also say, that it is safe for my septic system - another big plus. Can't comment on the color fastness yet as I've only washed it twice since dyeing it, but I really like the color I've used (metallic metal which has a blue base and turned out to be dark blue for my hard to dye fabric turned out). In fact, I love the results so much that I definitely plan on using this method again for future bridges! So happy with Idye and would highly recommend him. which has a blue base and turned out to be dark blue for my difficult to dye fabric).
