Review on Magnifying Stepless Dimmable Magnifier Adjustable by Chris Ostby

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better quality lamp/stand than expected and no assembly required!

My 5x LED magnifier just arrived today and it's a BIG time as I have to solder some guitar electronics (and I don't want to think about last night and the mess I had 2 basses made! ) and now I can see clearly and literally keep track of my close-up detail work! The quality of this unit - support arms, springs, pull handles, USB controller - exceeded my expectations as it is well built and stable without being too heavy or onerous. One has easy and convenient access to 2 adjustment/tension knobs and the entire unit rotates 360 degrees in the (clamp) base. I actually forgot that LED light has 3 color modes and 5 brightness levels. All the modes changed and responded flawlessly to the controller buttons and the range from darkest to lightest was like a 5 speed gearbox on a bike and I think it will suit most users/needs. (I was glad the brightest mode didn't glare and magnify back through the lens! I was a little concerned and assumed that would be the case. Don't worry about this device: it gets bright enough, but lets you Don't see "stars" or print images on the retina!4 Keep track of your work! The USB cable is long enough to reach a power outlet, laptop, or nearby device, but doesn't so long that black "spaghetti mush" is left in your path or journey ( !) I've only used it for practicing some musical snippets/phrases from Guitar Player Magazine, which for the last 3 or 4 years (I am 62) was getting increasingly difficult and frustrating due to my deteriorating eyesight as I just can't tell if a fuzzy black ball is per line or spaces (forget it if it's a 3 or 4 line note!), or whether the chord is Gb6/9 or Cb6/9 etc. I can a piece of music moves under the lens so it's clearly visible and doesn't get in the way of my hands or the guitar neck! Finally, a word to the wise. If you want this lamp to stay securely in place for months/years, you need to take the time to loosen the knobs before changing hand position - big changes, at least. If not, you'll have to twist the grip(s) tighter and tighter over time and it will only weaken. I'm not saying this has happened to me, but this isn't the first Knob Rodeo in my life! Oh, and be careful not to keep your finger between your bottom two hands if you decide to fold it back a few inches or so, as this will do to your fingers what you would do to a crab leg on one do seafood party. in your restaurant. local red flobster! Word! :-) Don't hesitate to buy this lamp if you need help to see what you are doing!
