To be honest, I should have read the Q&A more carefully and just paid the extra $30 for Nintendo branded joysticks. They work as separate joycons, but I don't play those games. I use a crank (which doesn't fit), but I also bought one specifically for my daughter so she can play with her ring while my joycons drift. Unfortunately, they don't work for that either. Ultimately, this is really disappointing. The joycons themselves definitely seem cheaper than the branded nintendos. They appear lighter and more flexible. Eventually they seem to fit in the switch itself, but only if forced in, which I didn't want to do. We will save them as additional individual joycons (although I have no idea when we will use them).
