Slightly unstable, best in DVD players and recorders
It always seems like a struggle, but eventually a button on the remote or unit will start the DVD. Also not compatible with my old LCD via HDMI, had to use the RCA that came with it. If you're not getting a picture, keep trying each cable combination on each input on your TV. The last one worked for me. It's not basic TV-quality entertainment, but it's good enough for a bedroom or dark room in the house. The lowest quality DVD player I have ever used. The universal remote works well.
