I have a deaf brother-in-law and bought them so we can dictate on an Apple laptop and view text on the TV while his FIVE sisters chat. He has a phone app but they are all chatting at the same time and the phone just gives up. So we can have two microphones that they can send. Well it didn't work. Apple does not recognize the input module. I linked to Hotec's answer and WHAT answer, great, detailed, insightful. Working together, we found that some Apple laptops work and some don't. What's next. They suggested I buy a $7 Hotec cable and try again. I bought it, it doesn't work. I then connected the USB audio dongle to my laptop and used a Hotec cable to go from the 1/4" connector on the interface device to the 1/8" dongle input. It worked like MAGIC. You can use both mics and everything works great. I'm an electrical engineer working with all kinds of complex devices but this has left me at a loss. Many thanks to Hotec support!
