Living plants in the aquarium was the first time. I have a 3 gallon betta tank that came with lights. Needless to say the light sucked and all my plants turned brown and died. Since the aquarium will be on a shelf protected from sunlight for most of the day, these plants need a reliable, GOOD quality light source. I found this as a last resort to save them as about 75% of most plants were brown and dying. in just under 2 weeks all the brown parts fell off and were replaced almost immediately with new green leaves/stems! Actually this light worked "too well" because the algae are growing pretty fast now so I need to buy a scrubber for the aquarium. However, this is not so important, this is the work of light, and algae are natural. I'd rather remove the algae than deal with dead plants creating nitrates in my tank. I can highly recommend this lamp.
