I bought an extra cable for someone who uses their HP laptop in a construction trailer so they can leave the OEM cable in the trailer and the cable can keep in his cabin at our headquarters. When this cable arrived we took this cable and compared it to the OEM HP cable. The OEM cable is thicker - I don't know if it's thinner wire or shield or both, but the new cable is definitely thinner. The OEM cable may also be a foot or two longer than this cable. For what we need it for, this cable should work, but be aware that it's probably not as good as the one that originally came with the laptop, which is why I took a star off my rating.
