Great big mailbox, except for one.

I was looking for a HUGE mailbox to store incoming and outgoing mail so I wouldn't leave mailboxes on the ground in the rain or snow and this mailbox was the biggest I was able to find and meet my needs. I've had this mailbox for almost a year (mid-October would be the year), everything was great until a cotter pin broke on one side in July of this year. I contacted Architectural Mailboxes about a doorknob assembly failure. I couldn't buy the builds on their website as they said they were out of stock so I decided to email them direct and I was helped by Crystal F from customer service who was kind enough, two build kits to send. I managed to install the knot and it turned out that the cotter pin is the weak link, it is of poor quality and breaks too easily. Attached is a photo of the door pin assembly that I received from Architectural Mailboxes. A week and a half after replacing the first knot, the other side also broke off. I used the cotter pin the company provided me and replaced it. A week later (08/17/21) the second cotter pin broke again during the second build. I emailed support immediately the same day but have not received anything from them as of today 8/24/21. I went to my local hardware store and bought additional 3/32" X 3/4" cotter pins and these pins seem to be stronger than the pins supplied by the manufacturer. I like the size of the mailbox, only I'm frustrated that the door pin keeps failing. To make matters worse, I recommended this mailbox to two of my neighbors. Until this defect is corrected, I do not and will not recommend this mailbox under any circumstances.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Don't really like it, it's ok
