Review on πŸ’» ORICO Mini 250GB Portable External SSD: Ultra-Slim High Speed, USB 3.1 Gen2 USB-C Port Aluminum Mobile Solid State Flash Drive for MacBook-IV300 by Jeff Jones

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good but runs hotter and slower than advertised

This SSD gets really hot. I tested it with H2testw and it has the rated capacity. My old laptop might limit transfer speeds, but another 2T USB SSD, also rated at 1Gb/s, runs H2testw at 580MB/s on both write and read/test, this one runs natively only at 280 MB/ss and writing slows down to 110 MB/s during padding and warming up (read/verify stays steady at 280 MB/s). That's acceptable to me, but not very good. If the heat doesn't cause premature failure, this was a good buy.

Pros
  • Universal Compatibility: ORICO External SSD is easy to use, plug and play, no external power required; Compatible with Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Android systems, it can be used on PC, MacBook, Android phones with Type-C port, etc. (cellphone must support OTG function).
Cons
  • Very expensive
