The drain in my bathtub regularly clogs - mainly with hair - a very long and nasty story. I've tried several chemical drain openers, two different drain snakes - they won't make corners in my drain more than 6 or 7 feet, a regular plunger is utterly useless - last time even a professional plumber couldn't clean the drain. I bought a plunger because it makes perfect sense. A bathtub drain spoiler is an overflow drain - until you find a way to block it tightly enough to handle the intense flow of air you're directing from the plunger into the main drain, you're out of luck. I solved this problem with a sock and plumbing compound - pour a handful of putty into the sock, pop the putty/sock into the overflow spout and replace the plate as the plunger blows the putty/sock right out of the overflow spout . if it is not included. I have to admit I originally used a banana in a sock - it worked but it was messy. If the overflow drain is clogged, the plunger quickly clears any clog - it takes 3 or 4 flushes - but I haven't found anything more effective. Great product, a pleasure to use. Can be made from stronger materials, but it definitely gets the job done. Book a plumber's putty from him if you're struggling with a clogged tub.
