Don't waste your money on these flimsy things. I've used 2 at once (which helps a bit) but they don't filter very well (unless it's water that's not moving enough in my fountain) but 2 together worked better than 1. I've tried too To use aquarium filters, but changed small filters there and they no longer fit. So what I found the best are PETCO fountain filters (just by looking at them you can tell they are better and a perfect fit!) So far so good with Petco filters. On the other hand, I don't think I'll ever buy a fountain like that again (that's another story). Petco filters are about the same price 3 for about $7. You can buy them in stores or online.
