Review on πŸ“Ά TRENDnet AC1750 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router, 2.4GHz 450Mbps, 5Ghz 1300Mbps, 2 USB Ports, IPv6 Support, DD-WRT Compatible, TEW-824DRU by Samuel Lewis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

DD-WRT support is ok, but the lack of LED indicators is a reluctant 4-star rating.

Summary: After installation DD-WRT seems to work fine with this router. It loses a star because it doesn't have LED indicators for each Ethernet port. This is actually an important feature for me, but I can do without it. Timely Details: I had to make a quick but sensible decision on which router to use as my previous router showed signs of imminent demise. The 824DRU seemed to fit the bill. Once DD-WRT was actually installed, everything went smoothly, but the installation itself was a bit tedious. I chose to install via hardware recovery mode, but this particular mechanism seems very sensitive to the system actually trying to install the firmware. Trendnet's instructions suggest setting the IP address of the installation computer to 192.168.10.10. I've tried this on two computers, one Linux desktop and the other a recent vintage MacBookPro with a Thunderbolt->Ethernet bridge dongle. I won't go into the many permutations I tested, but I will say that the only thing that ultimately worked was contacting the recovery web app on the device AND successfully downloading the DD-WRT firmware via MBP . with the IP address 192.168.10.171. Trust me it was so weird. BUT. Once DD-WRT got to the router successfully, everything went smoothly. That's all!
