Fingers too long and thumb too tight

I suspect they size these for women with long fingernails, which I do not have. I went down from a L to a M, but the fingers were still a bit long and the thumb was way too tight. They were nice looking, so I am disappointed about the way they fit. Also, they are NOT lined with wool, as the listing states. It is 100% polyester fluff. I guess that is to be expected for the price.
