I'm just like you and I read tons of reviews before buying especially when I put something in the Hercules house. But we are both very happy with these sheets. They are made of soft silicone and therefore have no sharp edges. I've adjusted them a few different ways, but now they're an L-shape and one is a little slanted, which he likes to rest on. The lower one often just cools in the "shadow" underneath and rests on the decoration. I have a curved aquarium and it sticks to it. What surprised me the most was the "wooden" part that I was about to throw, but I put it on the top sheet and it's literally his favorite spot. He likes to just sit on the tip that is close to the water surface and doesn't have to swim up.
