The 5960X isn't just the fastest desktop CPU to date, it's a true gift from Intel. Basically, they are selling a powerful server processor (with some caveats, ofcomurse) with overclocking capability for the price of a desktop processor. I do 3D graphics. Visualization (rendering) is what eats up a lot of time. There are philosophers who talk about the advisability of building a render farm of 5 fx-8530s, etc. , arguing that it willcomst less and as a result we will get a more productive system. In part, this is true: 1) Provided that you have a ready-made project that you just need to put on render - that's what render farms do - for a day they rivet the final frames for a project already prepared for this. 2) Provided that you have a free room in which the system engineers will stand, but in which you will not work yourself (take my word for it, working in a noisy steam room is not the most pleasant experience). 3) Well, provided that the extra 2 kWh is not a problem for you at all. But when itcomes to normal workflow - when you want to click on a button and in 20 seconds see an intermediate render withoutnetwork render dancing; when you need 36 GHz in an ordinary case, which is neatly hidden under the desktop - there is simply no alternative to the 5960X. More precisely, it is - -E7-8860-v3-40M-Cache-2_20-GHz justcomsts 4 times as much :) If someone tells you that the 5960X is weaker than any other CPU in games or in any other applications, don't believe it. With the same clock speed, the result will be identical at worst :)
