Canon Powershot G10 14.7 MP digital camera with 5x wide optical zoom and image stabilization I've had the Canon Powershot G10 for about a week now and am very happy with my choice. The camera (my third "flagship" digital camera - the previous ones were Nikon and Fuji) is definitely a camera for photographers, with all the controls being intuitive and easy to use. For example, while all digital cameras I've owned have had the ability to adjust exposure levels, this is the only camera that doesn't require you to be a contortionist. The camera is fast and responsive and rivals my old Nikon Coolpix 800 in terms of image quality (my Fuji Finepix S5100 lags a bit behind in this regard and that was part of my motivation for buying this camera). Now for expectations: one thing that's well documented across the various Powershot G10 reviews is its poor performance (in terms of excessive noise and artifacts) in low light and high ISOs. In fact, I see noise appearing at ISO 400 and getting worse as I go from 800 to 1600. I rarely shoot in these conditions so I figured it wouldn't affect my style too much so my expectations were met. It's not bad as long as I keep ISO 400 or lower. It really shines at 100 or 200, which is where I mostly work. But at ISO 800 and above it's definitely compromised, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a low-light camera. Another tip: the PowerShot G10 uses the proprietary NB-7L battery, which Canon (and Revain) charge for a ridiculous price. There are generic versions of this battery (with more mAh) available at a fraction of the cost. So don't let the battery distract you too much.
