I installed two Toto Drake low flush toilets 10 years ago. As far as I remember, damper valves had to be replaced after 5 years. To save some money I bought replacement parts from big stores or Amazon - about 2 years apart! Aftermarket kits not only didn't last very long before leaking, they didn't flush as well as Toto blocks. I didn't notice this when installing the valves, they just seemed to flush more slowly than the Toto blocks. Toto crackers and fill the bowl to different levels. However, the Toto flaps flush much faster and seem to fill the bowl to the same level every time. In fact, compared to previous valves, Toto valves flush as if they are under high pressure! So to save money I bought 3 5 year aftermarket kits instead of 1 Toto unit (hopefully they will last as long as the original). Just spend a little more up front - it saves in the long run.
