Review on ๐Ÿฅ‘ Efficiently Slice Avocados with the OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer - Green by Sade Tucker

Knives and spoons better

The edge of the plastic blade is awkwardly shaped and difficult to use due to the angle at which the tool is held in the hand. It's not much safer than using a serrated steak knife, as it's less fiddly to use and you can still cut yourself with the plastic blade. I have no reason to cut an avocado with this thing. The pitting device consists of three non-sharp metal blades which, due to their bluntness, require considerable force to penetrate and grip the pit. If the fruit is very ripe you don't need this tool and if you use one you will end up pushing the pit into the pulp and trying to get the tool to grab the pit. If the fruit is hard, using a knife is much easier and more efficient. The slicer/scoop does the trick. If all avocados were exactly the same size and shape as a shoulder blade, I would see an advantage in that. But it only penetrates the fruit at the wide end, leaving a significant amount of pulp at the narrow end. Also, you can't get the dark green goo next to the skin where most of the avocado's valuable nutrients should be, so if you want that you still have to use a spoon to finish it off with a scoop. For starters, you can just use a spoon. There's a reason the video sample stops once the user hits the narrow end. It doesn't show what's left after using the shovel. So that's zero out of three on this instrument. I'll stick with my knife until I find a better tool. I've had good experiences with OXO tools over the years, so this was a big disappointment. I give it two stars because it works, although not very well.
