Caution! Know which seller you are buying from! Don't buy from Scott Bertram! We bought our original slicer from Revain years ago (pictured left), it worked great until we broke it. Ordered again and it was a FAKE (on the right in the picture)! How can you clearly see the difference in quality and no OXO logo. I admit that you can do everything this tool does without it, you can lose a minimal amount of Akodo by using a knife to remove the seed and slicing it instead. I really liked this avocado knife but there are a few things that could be improved about this product. I always have avocados at home so I was really excited about this product, especially the stone remover. Removing a core has always been difficult for me, if I pick it up with a spoon it doesn't come out clean and piercing it with a knife can remove it cleanly but it may not be the safest. The edge of the plastic blade is awkwardly shaped and difficult to use due to the angle at which the tool is held in the hand. It's not much safer than using a serrated steak knife, as it's less fiddly to use and you can still cut yourself with the plastic blade. I have no reason to cut an avocado with this thing. I love this tool! I make guacamole quite often, which involves cutting, slicing, and mashing about 5 avocados. This tool makes it much quicker and easier than just using a knife and spoon. You can cut, core, scoop and slice; all with one tool. Also, when preparing guacamole, it is much easier to mash up already cut avocados, so this tool saves a lot of time and makes everything easier.
