After reading the bad reviews posted here, it seemed that many people are buying fake OXO avocado slicers. Too bad, that's why I decided to write my own review. Here's what you can expect from a true OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Avacado Planer. I've owned mine for over three years now. I use it at home fairly regularly. The blade on this slicer is more than sharp enough to quickly and easily cut an avocado in half, but not sharp enough to sever the skin. I let my 10 year old granddaughter use it all the time since she was 7 years old. (She loves avocados. Lol) Removing the stone from an avocado couldn't be easier or safer. It has 3 slightly rounded, blunt, indented blades, sharp enough to grab a bone but again not sharp enough to cut skin. The grip hole makes it easier to push out the bone. As for the reviewer who said his blades were rusty after 2 washes, he probably got a fake. My blades are still fine after more than 3 years. ** footnote. My wife was at work when a fellow chef cut herself in an avocado with a chef's knife. The bone split in half, as they sometimes do, and the knife went straight into his palm. Slicing and dividing avocados is where this tool really excels. In one quick, easy puff, I have 7 evenly spaced avocado slices ready for a sandwich or salad. I didn't even have to scrape it off with a spoon. Again, sharp enough to slice through an avocado without risking the skin. Finally, the rubber grip prevents it from slipping in my hand, even when wet. knife and spoon. And yes, I can halve the pit and slice the avocado with a knife and spoon, but considering how quick and easy he cut the avocado, I think the result is more balanced.
