Review on Dorman 924-897 Ignition Lock Cylinder: Replacing Saturn Models Securely by Jesse Azuse

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked great on a 2005 Saturn Vue! The "impact wrench " method may need to be used if the old key won't turn!

The original key did not turn in the ignition lock. You must turn the ignition to the assist position to remove the ignition lock cylinder. Look for "bumping" videos on YouTube. Using the factory car key and the handle of a screwdriver (use a large-handled screwdriver) to tap (hit) the back of the key as you turn the key, I was able to turn the key. It took repeated attempts, but it will work, be patient. You have to hit the back of the key instead of hitting it like a hammer when you turn the key. After turning, leave the key in the accessory position. To remove the core, use a small allen wrench through the hole behind the wrench and pry to loosen the ignition lock cylinder. There are videos on YouTube on how to remove the ignition lock cylinder, check them out.

Pros
  • Lock cylinder
Cons
  • So far so good
