Difficult to install but problem solved
Took me about 3 hours on a hot day (with a few cool downs). The entire door panel should come loose from the inside and the window should be free to access this part. I found a good youtube video for the passenger side that is almost identical. There's not much leeway to tamper with the various links, particularly the driver's side door lock cylinder. But when everything is ready, my door closes again and opens again. I hope it lasts, I don't want to do it again.
