I chose this device over the Bluetooth/WI-FI versions because of the big cost savings - the cable in this device was enough to connect to my laptop while driving. This item worked great. My rating is only 4 stars because of the terrible instructions. The included instructions are printed on both sides, one side for one model and the other side for the other model. I couldn't find the correct model number on any of the products, so I was able to download the correct drivers. Finally I just downloaded everything from the provided website link and it worked. I used this on a 2015 Ford F150 along with the free FORScan software. There is a switch on this device - again, the instructions do not indicate in which position it should be. To help those planning to use it the same way, I offer the following tips that I've learned through trial and error - I hope this saves you lots of time! This device plugs into the port on my F150 which is under the dash on the driver's side with the label on the device facing up and the switch to the right. The first time you try to connect to the FORScan program, the switch must be in the correct position, otherwise you will get an error message. The program will then start loading the vehicle profile and will ask if you want to load a known profile. If you click Yes, only some modules will be displayed. Click on "no" and FORSan will scan your vehicle for installed modules. During this process it stops and a message appears: This vehicle may contain MSCAN modules. Does the ELM adapter have an HS/MS CAN switch? Well this ELM adapter has a switch but there is no reference to the switch in the instructions so I clicked don't know and it just showed the main modules. Later I tried again and clicked Yes. The software will then instruct you to set the HS/MS CAN switch to the MS CAN bus position and press OK. Well, it turns out it's a switch on the device, although the manual doesn't say anything about it. Move the switch to the left position, click "OK", and the rest of the modules will be found and available for modification. You will then get a message asking if you want to save the profile. If you do this, be sure to give it a unique name, otherwise the name will be the same as the original one - I couldn't tell which was which. I hope this saves you about an hour of experimentation. While most of my comments are based on using the FORScan software with the device, I suspect it will be similar to other software as well. Basically, it is important to determine what the switch is and what position it should be in. Seems like it would be easy to add this to the guide!
