At first I gave this cap 4 stars noting that while it's attractive it's noisy and impractical unless you really need a flat cap. However, I've given this cap another try and now believe it's an amazingly useful accessory if you're using the Klean Kanteen for most of your hydration needs. A regular plastic loop cap works great with water, but has numerous and deep crevices, making it a nightmare for many drink mixes. In particular, if you've ever attempted to mix a cocktail in a cantina, you've probably regretted it when you had to clean up. The all-metal lid uses a plug design, making it more of an "outlet" than an "in" lid. No cracks. Even thick milk protein shakes mix evenly with no lumps or mess when you use this lid, and it drips less when removed after shaking. The all-metal construction seemed useless at first, but after some experience I also found that this lid is just generally easier to clean and collects a lot less dirt throughout the day, especially (again) if you mix sports drinks or other powders in it. . The trail is also much easier to keep dust free; The plastic cap has sharp corners around the filaments that require either a brush or pressure to get a good clean, which you may not have handy when camping, but the metal cap has smooth, flat filaments with curved edges that are easy to clean with your fingers can be wiped. Also the plastic cap sometimes leaves thin plastic shavings on the threads of the bottle when you screw it on; This all-metal cover obviously doesn't have that problem. The main disadvantages are that it is noisy when resealing the canteen (metal clinking, squeaking), which can be disturbing in a quiet environment, and the metal loop is much less convenient to hook. Your finger if you want to carry the bottle this way. The last problem can of course be solved by gluing or wrapping the loop if you wish. Alternatively, the bamboo/metal lid features the same all-metal stopper and hinged metal ring, which is much more finger-friendly. This cap is much easier to appreciate when viewed not as an upgrade or complete replacement for the plastic cap, but as a practical and easy-to-clean alternative.
