First off, let me say that I'm not a car enthusiast, but I'm an electrician and installed this backup camera myself on my 2012 Chevy Express 2500. I routed the video cable from front to back with relative ease. The camera setup was PERFECT for the OEM third brake light. I connected the video cable to the adapter that came with it, which connects to your video on your receiver. The red connector is power and should not be confused with the left or right audio channel as the adapter has video and white connectors. This confused me a bit when I first opened the content. As soon as I connected power and ground to the REVERSING LIGHT, the camera turned on just fine. Don't forget to connect the head unit to the reversing lights, also the head unit detected when the truck was going backwards and everything worked perfectly. The only thing that bothered me was the directions. They weren't very specific and someone who might want to do it themselves wouldn't be able to because they weren't there. My experience has helped me, but the average consumer can have difficulties. I hope this review helps you avoid a headache. Good luck, it's worth it
