If your phone gets damaged, you won't have a physical SIM card to use in your replacement phone, and you'll need to activate the physical SIM card with your carrier. This means that after your damaged eSim phone is repaired, you will need to download the eSim back onto your eSim phone (which would mean another visit to your provider I think). This is certainly not a problem unless you have a habit of damaging your phones like me.
