The plumber told me to use activated carbon filters on my Culligan water softener

I've tried 2 other filters I bought from Meijer and my water still tasted awful. I installed one of these activated carbon filters and after 1/2 hour I had great drinking water again. Now I can fill up my emergency water jugs and see how long it takes before I get crappy tasting water again. Does anyone know how long these filters last? I'll definitely be happy with my purchase if they last at least 3 months and hopefully longer.
