I've used plastic ice cube trays my whole life. However, we recently noticed that after the ice melted, there were a few tiny white particles in the water. The plastic of the trays appeared to have eroded. I researched the metal bowls and jumped at the chance to select them. No regret! They just have to be used a little differently than plastic trays: first I tied the tray to the freezer shelf so it wouldn't move when you put the trays in. I bought a metal bowl just for the freezer. Once every few days I take out the ice cube trays and leave them on the counter before removing the cubes. Don't try to get the cubes straight out of the freezer; this will break the tray handle. After 8-10 minutes (depending on how full they are) I transfer all the cubes to a bowl for easier use. Bonus: although it takes a little longer to get the cubes out, filling the tray with water is easier: you can fill an empty tray and then add a divider. Highly recommended.
