I bought mine in December 2006. The battery is just dead. Luckily a great person posted a guide on how to change the battery in another review. Otherwise I don't know if I would have understood it. I've used it every week for as long as I've had it. It's not waterproof as I found out when my father-in-law dunked it. but he dried up and continued to work. I'll probably spend a lot more on my next digital thermometer to get faster readings, but this has been very helpful. Now he's telling me what I need to know.
