In brief, the Rosonway USB C hub met all of my needs and expectations. It's compact, built well, performs as good or better than other USB 3.1 hubs/card readers I have, and is priced right for the package. If you need specifics, read on.Packaging: The packing is minimalistic and easy to open. No blister packs, ties, or unnecessary anchoring. While probably not certified "frustration free", it definitely is. Inside the box is a multi-language user guide that you probably won't need and the hub itself.Physical: The USB hub is made with a nicely-finished black plastic. The feel is smooth and pleasant to touch. Overall build quality is solid, nothing is loose or creaking. The bottom of the hub has non-slip pads to keep it in place, though. The body measures 4.0" x 1.5" x 0.9" and has a 2-foot cable with USB-C connector and included cable wrap. Each of the three USB ports has it's own on/off button which provides a nice tactile response, and offers enough resistance that they will not be accidentally activated. While a simple push will activate a port, you'll need to hold the button for a little over a second to deactivate a port. The SD and MicroSD slots are on the end of the unit, opposite the cable. SD cards will stick out about 1" from the hub when inserted.Charging: One thing you may notice is the hub can accept a DC-5V power supply connection, but a power supply is not included. If you plan to draw a large amount of power, you could add on a power supply, however I was able to charge my iPhone 13 Pro Max via the USB hub connected to my PC without any power supply. Most use cases will not need a power supply.Performance: I've attached four screen shots from CrystalDiskMark representing two separate tests. Please note that I do not have hardware capable of getting anywhere near the hub's theoretical 10Gbps speed. Personally, I am looking to see how it handles my normal, "mortal" devices.The first pair of speed tests shows a SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD connected to my PC via the Rosonway hub, and directly - both using the same USB-C port on the computer. For all intents and purposes, I would say the speeds are comparable, with the hub being faster in some readings and direct connection being faster in others. These differences are small enough that I would simply consider this testing variation, and in the real world there is no speed loss when using the hub.The second pair shows testing of a SanDisk 128GB Extreme SDXC UHS-I SD card. I am a part-time paid photographer, so I use a lot of these cards (as do many others, they are one of the most popular SD cards in the world). They are not the fastest cards on the market, but like the SSD test I am looking to see that the hub doesn't cause slowdowns compared to more direct hardware. In this case I was comparing to a Transcend USB 3 SD/MicroSD card reader. Unsurprisingly, the sequential speeds were essentially identical, however I was surprised to see that the random read/writes from the Rosonway hub were SIGNIFICANTLY faster than my dedicated USB 3 SD card reader - not a result I was expecting. Both random reads and writes were nearly 50% faster with the hub, telling me that it was built with a quality embedded card reader - better than a standalone one, shockingly.Conclusion: In the end, what we have is a light, sturdy, and high-performing USB 3 hub. While this would work fine for any desktop, I really see this as being a photographer/videographer's go-to, most suited to being taken in the field and used with devices such as Apple laptops (some of which only have a USB-C port so you HAVE to use a hub) or even Android phones with USB-C ports, especially thanks to the hub's high-performance SD/MicroSD card reader. Factor in all of these great features with a low price, and we have a winning combination of quality and value that's hard to beat.
