So a while ago I wanted to switch from the old dial thermometers which later can be unrealistic/fussy, to something that is instant and sure. Now I've always been a huge Weber fan and own 3, yes 3 of their grills (compact propane, compact charcoal for quick times and camping and a big charcoal beast for family picnics) with accessories and his brand that I knew and loved . trust. So I bought their thermometer for $24 and it broke for a little over a month because it was rarely used. No, I haven't abused it, used it as a lawn dart, or sat on it (oops!). One day my wife and I were looking at an American test kitchen and they reviewed these folding thermometers and the ones they tested ranged from $50 to $150 which I think is expensive for a thermometer. So I went with it and it works and works fine. It's a quick read and it means a lot when you're slow cooking or low and slow grilling and you don't want to lose all the heat by opening the grill lid over and over again. The amber backlight also turns on instantly, but can be turned off with the push of a button. Oh, by the way, the main button at the top is what makes the thermometer's pin protrude from the switch, which reminds me of my early years in New York in the '80s. It turns off with a long press of the button and is easy to clean with soap and water. It's not submersible, so don't fully immerse it in the sink. I wish it was submersible and the battery compartment waterproof, but at this price you can't ask for everything. It comes with a battery, has been solid so far and the plastic doesn't feel flimsy or cheap. I can't say anything about the durability, but I think the replacement is reasonable for the price.
