Review on Hakka Sausage Stuffer Stainless Vertical by Heather Richardson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very nice - updated and added 5th star 02/01/16

Bought 11# because it was cheaper than the 5# version. I can always make a smaller batch in a larger syringe. First impressions are that this is a really good device, everything is solid, reliable and well assembled. Some areas of the casting and machining are a little rough, but I doubt it will affect performance in any way. The two-stage mechanical operation is pretty smooth and is a good option for getting the piston out of the cylinder. The device came with stainless steel filling tubes and appeared to be very durable. I look forward to using it and will update as soon as I start a batch. Update 02/01/16 - Made 10 pounds of fresh Mettwurst. A few observations. 1) In the real world it doesn't hold 11 pounds per batch, more like 8-9 pounds. The biggest problem was holding the cylinder and putting the sausage in the tube. While the tube pivots to provide excellent access, there's no stopper to keep it open. It was actually a two person job if you want it filled to the brim. I've had no trouble filling 3/4 full and adding as needed. 2) If you let go of the handle, the pressure in the tube will decrease (good), but you could get hit (bad). Being able to lock and rotate the handle would be a nice feature. 3) About 2 cups of sausage remain in the fill tube (known issue). 4) All stainless steel construction is easy to clean and should last several times. These are minor issues and I think this is a great filler and tool for your kitchen. For the money you can't get a better deal in my opinion. I've upgraded this to 5 stars.
