The first one I ordered lasted 2.5 years before the spring failed which was probably my fault for clicking too often. We use them every night in front of the TV so I ordered two more, one to replace another company's slightly cheaper plastic version that after a year has become scratched and ugly. As mentioned before, you need to be careful when using this table for drinks and food. It holds best on the armrest of a chair/sofa, which allows the spring-loaded handle to press into the fabric and hold tight. In my experience, it hasn't marked or damaged the furniture I've used it on. And as I mentioned earlier, in order not to damage the spring, you must remove the table by holding the spring clips open and gently releasing them after taking them out of your hand. Cleans well with Pledge furniture polish.
