A few tips on sizing your plate

I bought a set of four hand-painted square dessert plates from an antique store. I wanted to hang them on the kitchen wall so I bought them. Right out of the box they look really well made and seemed like they would fit my needs perfectly. The rounded prongs seemed longer than any other cymbal holder I'd used before, so I was happy with that. The detection range was longer than I have ever seen in the past. very good. The feathers were firm and looked like they would stay safe for a long time. I also liked the fact that the piece of wire was shaped to hang down the middle. The problem arose when trying to put it on my plate. I measured my panels at 8.75 inches but the hanger didn't fit. It wouldn't even close to keep my plate safe, it kept breaking and bending, and here's why. My plate is quite thick, with jagged edges, and the back looks more like a bowl than a plate. It also has a half inch deep stand around the bottom. When I measured it, I only measured the front side, just across the board. I HAVE TO MEASURE THE ENTIRE BACK, INCLUDING THICKNESS COMPENSATION AND CONTOUR. **** So learn from my mistake and take a good look at what you're trying to hang. If it's even close to the upper limit of this holder, or has any real shape other than a smooth, soft, flat curve, take the next size up. The product description should let people know about it, but it doesn't. Out of curiosity I put a plate holder on top of one of my kitchen plates (Corelle) and it worked great with this shape and thickness so it's great for this size and style but not so much for the square thick plates they give me give we are needed So this time I measured the cymbals from behind, rearranged them and am sure the next larger size will fit me.
