Review on πŸ”οΈ Kahtoola KTS Steel Hiking Crampons with Detachable Snow Release Skins by Jay Williams

Fantastic product, best ice and snow grips

My brother and I recently climbed Mount Snowmass (14,092 feet). Neither of us had any experience of hiking or climbing in the snow. I was wearing Merrill Vibram boots, which are standard hiking boots with extremely flexible soles - not in the way you can wear regular crampons. My brother had something similar. Attaching the crampons to our boots was fairly easy, and attaching the crampons the day of our hike was easy as well. We camped for the night at about 11,000 feet, and all the way to the top there was deep snow beneath our camp. The inclines ranged from flat at the beginning to 70+ degrees at the top. The lugs were excellent, staying snug on our boots the whole time and providing great traction at all angles. The included Snow Release Skin silicone pads also worked well and neither of us had any problems with snow accumulating on the underside of the crampons. It would not be an exaggeration to say that without these crampons we would never have been able to reach the summit and would have been at serious risk of injury. Overall the Kahtoola KTS steel crampons are a great product and we highly recommend them. , especially for those who lack traditional crampon-compatible mountaineering boots.
