5 Stars. Great for polishing sterling silver jewelry

I have very old sterling silver jewelry that just didn't respond well to a silver polishing cloth. I also made the mistake of dipping my silver piece into liquid form and thought I'd ruined it forever. Not owning a dental or jeweler's lathe, but having experience using a lathe with a cotton pad and blush in a dental lab, I took the cheap route and bought an Enkay polishing wheel and jeweler's stick. My dear husband clamped his trusty 50 year old cast aluminum Craftsman single speed drill bit in a vise with the wheel upright (like a lathe) and then checked the direction of rotation so that the bottom of the wheel turned in the opposite direction. me - I didn't like the idea of cotton lint flying in my face! Then I turned on the drill and applied blush until the wheel was evenly colored. I held the jewel NEAR THE BOTTOM of the circle and polished it with a LIGHT, GENTLE touch of the circle. Warning: DO NOT hold the piece to be polished near the top 12 o'clock or 3 o'clock position or it could fly out of your hand, trust me I know!. My jewelry had a carved pattern so I didn't polish it too much or damage the patina so I was careful. So far no vortex marks. Blush is all I need for a nice job. With slight pressure on the wheel, my jewelry had no fluff or tangled threads. As I am new to polishing sterling silver jewelry I would like to get some feedback from silversmiths - anyone? For now I will refrain from polishing a sterling near a stone like turquoise.
